5 Best Cordless Drills In The Market in 2021

Last Updated on March 2, 2021 by John Smith

One tool I use every day is my cordless drill. It’s an essential tool for me as it lets me drill in places without electrical outlets.

However, most corded drills are not as good as they should be. In fact, they present many issues, such as:

  • Lousy motors that don’t output the necessary drilling power
  • Low-quality materials that substantially reduce the tool
  • Bulky materials that make the drill heavy and too big to fit in tight spaces
  • Terrible batteries that don’t last half of what they should last

The good news is that I’ve done the hard work of researching, testing, and selecting the best cordless drills so you didn’t have to waste time on it.

The List of The Best Cordless Drills

This is the list of the best-corded drills I personally tested and selected. I hope they give you an idea of what you should get:

1) BLACK+DECKER LDX120C 20-Volt MAX Cordless Drill

best cordless drill BLACK+DECKER LDX120C 20-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless Drill/Driver

This black and decker drill uses a Lithium-ion battery that can hold a charge up for a long time. It takes about three to four hours initially to charge the battery, but then you are good to go.

The charger is nice and small so it doesn’t take up much space. I like to just throw it into my tool bag and forget about it.

It also has a rubber grip that helps the tool to fit comfortably in my hand. It just feels balanced when you hold it. I like that. It doesn’t put any extra stress on my hand when I’m drilling with it.

It weighs just 3.1 pounds, so it’s very lightweight and very compact. I can easily get into tight places without any hassles.

Finally, It also has an attractive color of orange and black, which made it easy to identify inside my tool bag in the dark during those long work shifts at the construction site.

Pros

  • Lithium-ion battery – always ready, holds a charge up to 18 months
  • By providing an extra level of control, the 11 position clutch prevents stripping + overdriving screws
  • Compact + lightweight design allows users to carry out drilling tasks in confined spaces + with ease
  • LED work light illuminates the surface for easier drilling in dark places

2) PORTER-CABLE PCCK600LB 20-volt 1/2-Inch Cordless Drills

best cordless drill PORTER-CABLE PCCK600LB 20-volt 1/2-Inch Lithium Ion Drill/Driver Kit

This cordless drill may be small but the 20V Max Lithium-Ion battery this tool has allows it to deliver more power and runtime in a smaller package.

I mainly used it for drilling in really large and demanding jobs. However, the 2-Speed gearbox delivers the power needed to complete both large and small applications.

Furthermore, with its metal ratcheting chuck, I didn’t have to worry about the bits slipping in the chuck during the testing period.

This drill’s slim design allowed me to use it comfortably no matter what project I would do. Thanks to this, I would use this cordless drill for extended periods of time working in tight areas without having to stop because of my arm getting tired. I think its 3.7 pounds of weight and 8 inches of length were big contributing factors too.

Pros

  • High-performance motor delivers 330 Unit Watts Out
  • 2 Speed gearbox (0-400/0-1,600) delivers the power needed to complete large and small applications
  • Compact size (7 3/4″ length) and lightweight (3.5lbs) allows the tool to work in tight areas and minimises user fatigue
  • 20V Max Lithium-Ion batteries with 1.5 amp/hour cells deliver more power and runtime in a smaller package
  • Metal ratcheting chuck minimises bits slipping in chuck
  • Battery gauge displays charge remaining in the battery
  • LED light brightens dark work areas

3) Dewalt DCD771C2 20V MAX Cordless Drills

best cordless drill Dewalt DCD771C2 20V MAX Cordless Lithium-Ion 1/2 inch Compact Drill Driver Kit

Although this drill is considered to be compact, it’s a little bit larger than those previously reviewed.

Because of its ergonomic handle, it fitted comfortably in my hand which in turn made it easy for me to control the tool.

Moreover, the 1/2 inch single sleeve ratcheting chuck provides a tight bit gripping strength for those tougher surfaces I hate to drill into.

This is a powerful little drill.

It has a high-performance motor that delivers 300 unit watts out (UWO) of power, which is enough for doing the most demanding jobs. That’s important for me at least as I usually get frustrated with other cordless drills that don’t offer enough drilling power.

Pros

  • Includes 2 lithium-ion batteries and charger
  • High-speed transmission delivers 2 speeds (0-450 and 1500 RPM) for a range of fastening and drilling applications
  • A high-performance motor that delivers 300 unit watts out (UWO) of power
  • 1/2 in. single sleeve ratcheting chuck provides tight bit gripping strength
  • Ergonomic handle ensures comfort and control
  • Compact, lightweight design fits into tight areas
  • Case included for convenient portability and storage

4) Hitachi DS18DSAL 18-Volt Cordless Drills

best cordless drill Hitachi DS18DSAL 18-Volt Lithium Ion Compact Pro Driver Drill with Flashlight

This drill has 460 inches per pound of torque which gave me enough power enough to easily drill through thick surfaces at the time of testing.

The 22+1 clutch offered me 22 drive settings and one drill mode for both high torque applications and precision driving which gave me the confidence to tackle any drilling jobs.

If that’s not enough, this drill has a two-speed switch. The low speed is 0-350 rpm and 1500 RPMs in the highest speed setting. And it’s so easy to use! at the push of a button, I had the flexibility and option of drilling at low speed and using more torque for drilling larger holes through thicker material.

This drill uses a 1.5Ah Lithium Ion slide battery, which improves the drill’s ergonomics and balances while extending the battery lifetime.

On top of that, it’s lighter than many other drills from Hitachi I tested in the past and its runtime lasts twice as long, which is very convenient.

What I also loved about this drill is that the battery charger circuitry prevents overheating and power loss, which is essential for the lifespan of the tool. I mean, I don’t think I hate anything more than my drill running out of battery in the middle of drilling, it’s awful!

Pros

  • 1/2″ ratcheting keyless chuck accepts a wide range of bits that can be changed out quickly and easily
  • Variable speed trigger and 2-speed motor for maximum control and precision during use
  • LED job light illuminates the work surface and is ideal in dark workspaces
  • 460 in/lbs of torque to power through the toughest jobs with ease
  • 1.5Ah Lithium-Ion slide batteries improve ergonomics and balance while extending run time
  • 22+1 clutch offers 22 drive settings and one drill mode for both high torque applications and precision driving
  • Metal belt hook for easy job site accessibility
  • Battery charger circuitry prevents overheating and power loss

3 Must-Have Features for The Best Cordless Drills

best cordless drill

Great Battery Life

If I grab my cordless drill in the middle of a job and the battery is dead, that’s not a good day. It means I’m not gonna be able to finish the job, which means I’m gonna lose money.

So, battery life is essential for a good cordless drill from various points of view.

Ergonomics and Durable Materials

I like to have a good firm grip on whatever I’m holding, especially my power tools.

That’s why I look for drills designed in a way that fits my hand comfortably, to avoid hand fatigue.

Moreover, many products nowadays are made cheap, with low-quality plastic and unreliable materials. With tools like that, all you do is wasting money, which is why I look for cordless drills that are durable and long-lasting.

The Same Torque and Power as Corded Drills Have

The obvious advantage of a cordless drill is that you don’t need a power outlet. That makes it convenient, but in some cases, it can present some issues. Especially when the drill doesn’t output enough torque.

That’s why I always look for drills that will deliver the required torque at the highest speeds because it’s the right combination of speed and torque is what gets the job done.

Pro Tip: Remember to Recharge The Batteries!

Like most people, I want to relax when I get home. But that doesn’t mean I completely forget about my job.

Before dinner, I always remember to plug in my cordless drill. Why? Well because I hate running out of battery in the middle of drilling, that’s why!

The best advice I can give you is remembering to always recharge the batteries the night before you go to bed to avoid future headaches.
